PROGRAM

Training objective

- Move in the snowy mountains, within a group, understanding the meaning of the leader's instructions and applying them

- Participate effectively in an avalanche rescue with avalanche transceiver/probe/shovel

educational goals

- Recognize different types of snow and their surface conditions

- Understand the triggering mechanisms of a slab avalanche

- Recognize characteristic avalanche situations

- Read and interpret a topographic map, use a carto app

- Decipher and interpret a BERA

- Understand the choice of a route

- Plan a race in outline

- Interpret and measure in the field the inclinations of slopes, read the traps in the field

- Understand decision-making and apply the leader's instructions

- Participate effectively in group avalanche rescue

- Transmit the alert effectively to professional rescue

MATERIAL

Ski touring equipment

– Safety equipment (DVA with new batteries, metal shovel with handle, 2.40m probe)

- Cross-country skis or snowshoes

Clothing & Accessories

- Waterproof jacket

- Thermal layer (down jacket or fleece)

– Adapted pants (water-repellent and thick enough: ski touring, cross-country skiing, mountaineering)

– 1 Pair of warm gloves and 1 pair of light gloves

– Beanie and buff

- Sunglasses

- Solar cream

- Meat bag and change for the refuge (in the case of a night in the refuge)

- Stove if necessary (to be confirmed)

Race food

- 1L water bottle and/or thermos

- Cereal bars, seeds, dried fruits

- Picnic for both days

- Meal for the evening (if night in an unguarded refuge)

- Breakfast (if night in an unmanned refuge)
